Focal Periphyseal Edema(FOPE)
Findings:
STIR hyperintensities reflecting marrow edema noted in lateral aspect of fibular epiphysis abutting the growth plate.
Discussion:
Our patient was a 10 year old boy presenting with pain in lateral aspect of knee. FOPE—focal periphyseal edema zone represents edema centered cenetred around the closing epiphysis . A FOPE zone when seen in adolescents should not a cause of alarm , even with history of pain. Edema is only related to early stages of physiologic physeal closure.
