Case Of the Week (COW) 24 Feb 2013
Answer:
Ossicular Injury – Incudo Malleolar Joint Seperation.
Findings:
There is Seperation of the malleus head from the incus body. Displacement of the head of malleus (scoop) from the body and short process of incus(cone of ice cream).
Discussion:
Osssicular injuries are a common complication of temporal bone trauma. Our patient presented with conductive hearing loss. The malleus is a secure ossicle firmly attached. Incus is the most vulnerable ossicle to injury since it does not have a muscular anchor. Incudo Malleolar Joint Seperation is said to be the most common common form of ossicular injury.
