Clasp Knife Syndrome.
Findings:
Elongated L5 spinous process is seen protruding into the wide S1 Spina Bifida.
Discussion:
Clasp Knife Syndrome is characterized by : Painful effect due to extension of lumbar spine. LBA due to pressure on membrane covering the sacral defect. Spina Bifida occulta of the S1 level. caudal enlargement of the L5 spinous process. It was termed The long Spinous Process by Bellerose in 1935. The pain management is initially conservative with postural exercises followed by surgical removal of long spinous process in case no relief occurs.
