Case Of the Week (COW) 06 Jan 2013
Answer:
NSIP
Findings:
Ground-glass opacity predominantly in basal and subpleural distribution bilaterally. The findings in upper lobes is less prominent compared to basal segments.
Discussion:
NSIP is characterized by a predominant pattern of ground-glass opacification in a predominantly basal and subpleural distribution with or without associated distortion of airways . A reticular pattern is common but honeycombing is sparse or absent. NSIP may be distinguished from UIP by a more prominent component of ground-glass attenuation and a finer reticular pattern in the absence of honeycombing. Although the clinical features of NSIP resemble those of UIP, prognosis is considerably better.
