Case Of the Week (COW) 07 February 2016
Cerebral venous thrombosis
Findings
T1 hyperintensities noted in the confluence of internal cerebral veins, vein of galen and straight sinus
Discussion
This is a case of venous thrombosis involving the deep cerebral venous system and the dural venous sinus without venous infarct. due to the absence of an obvious venous infarct, the subtle finding of the venous thrombosis has to be carefully looked for. Cerebral venous thrombosis is an important cause of stroke especially in children and young adults. It is more common than previously thought and frequently missed on initial imaging. It is a difficult diagnosis because of its nonspecific clinical presentation and subtle imaging findings.
