Rectal prolapse
Findings
There is prolapse of the rectum upto anal verge . Bladder,uterus appear normal Visualised anal sphincter appears normal Feature suggestive of rectal prolapse grade III
Discussion
Rectal prolapse also known as rectal procidentia is a pelvic floor disorder that occurs mainly in elderly women . It is the protrusion of entire thickness of rectal mucosa through anal opening Patients present with complaints of mucosal discharge,faecal incontinence,rectal bleeding or obstructed defecation syndromes. Rectal prolapse may be full thickness involving all layers or only partial involving only mucosa. IT may be classified as external or internal,circumferential or segmental . It may be present at rest or occur only during straining.. There are 3 degrees of internal prolapse 1st degree- prolapse detectable below anorectal ring on strain, 2nd degree-if it reaches upto dentate line ,3 rd degree – upto anal verge. It is demonstrated by video defaecography by X ray or MRI cine defaecography
