Answer for CoW 04 June 2017
Intraventricular neurocysticercosis
Findings
CT BRAIN- shows dilated lateral and third ventricle with one cystic lesion noted in the fourth ventricle causing expansion and compression of fourth ventricle. VP shunting was done as an emergency procedure. Then MRI was taken. MRI revealed a well defined thin walled 2.5×2.2cm cystic lesion noted within the fourth ventricle causing expansion of fourth ventricle. It was hypointense on T1, hyperintension on T2 and completely suppressed on FLAIR Sequence with an eccentric enhancing scolex. One week later excision of the cyst was done. HPE came as neurocysticercosis.
Discussion
NCC is the most common CNS parasitic infection worldwide. Brain parenchyma is the most commonly affected site in NCC. Intraventricular cysticercosis cyst are seen in 20℅ to 50℅ cases.
