Answer for BIR CoW 17 Dec 2023
TRANSIENT GLOBAL AMNESIA
Findings
Foci of restricted diffusion in bilateral hippocampus gyrus- suggestive of transient global amnesia
Discussion
Transient global amnesia is characterized by the rapid onset of anterograde amnesia that lasts up to 24 hours There is no clouding of consciousness or loss of personal identity No focal neurologic or epileptic signs seen in the patient Mild nonspecific symptoms (headache, nausea, dizziness) may also be present during the acute phase. MRI can help to support the diagnosis MRI show small punctate regions of abnormally restricted diffusion on DWI/ADC sequences in the CA1 area of the hippocampus (lateral edge of the hippocampal gyrus abutting the temporal horn). These lesions can be bilateral and even multifocal. These changes generally appear after symptom resolution, and the highest rate of detection is approximately 2 days after symptom onset
