Case Of the Week (COW) 22 Mar 2015
ATRETIC CEPHALOCOELE
Findings
CT-Sub scalp nodule with bony defect and cigar shaped CSF tract in the post interhemispheric fissure with bone edges tapering from inward to outward MRV- shows primitive falcine vein draining to superior sagittal sinus
Discussion
ATRETIC CEPHALOCOELE: Congenital anamoly of children Abortive form of meningomyelocele Presents as a skin covered subscalp lesion and consists of meningeal and glial tissue PLAIN RADIOGRAPH ;Oval Bony defect 0.5-1.5 cms widthmargins tapering from inside outwards CT - A soft tissue density subscalp nodule enhancing with contrast MRI-Heterogenous subscalp mass Vertical embryonic positioning of the straight sinus pointing to the mass peaking of tentorium Prominent superior cerebellar cistern Spinning top configuration of tentorial incisura , Cigar shaped csf tract in interhemispheric fissure Fenestration of superior sagittal sinus.
